Baked Fruit: 4 cups sliced Peaches, drained 4 cups sliced Apples 2 cups crushed Pineapple, drained 1 1/2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch.

Combine all fruit in slow cooker. Sprinkle with spices. Combine sugar and cornstarch. Add to fruit. Mix well. Cover. Cook on high 2 hours or low 4 hours. Can be served as a side dish with the main meal or as a topping for vanilla ice cream.

Student of the Month: UpRiver’s Students of the Month for Dec. “Organized” were Paul Cunningham, Lillian DuCharme, Charlotte Moore, Anabelle Short, Miley Cunningham, Tucker Cunningham, James Schmeling, DJ Reeves, Kaylee Hetzel and Kodi Mitchell.

Winners: The Tri-Community Library’s “Winter Reading” program winners were adults-John Ausmus of Emida and Sue Stanton of Fernwood each won a $50 gift certificate from the Fernwood Mercantile. The children/youth winners were Tatham Preyer of Fernwood; Jeremiah, Lilly, Isaiah and Addie Frank all of Emida; Noah Moser of Santa each won a basket filled with popcorn, candy and their choice of movie.

Birthdays: Marsha Retana of Emida celebrated her 62nd birthday with family and friends. Marsha was born on Jan. 10, 1959. Nancy Corbin of Emida celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends. Nancy was born on Jan. 12, 1941 in Portland, Ore.

Weight Club: Jan. 8 was the first weigh-in for the UpRiver Weight Club. New members are always welcome. Dues are $10 for a year. The UpRiver Weight Club meets on Friday mornings at the Fernwood Senior Center from 8 to 9 a.m.

Welcome: Bob and Mary Spray formally of Coeur d’ Alene now reside in Fernwood.

Benchmark: UpRiver Elementary’s Math Benchmarking week continues until Jan. 14. The Reading Benchmarking will be the week of Jan. 17.

Lunches: UpRiver Elementary lunches are Jan. 13-cheese pizza, carrots, pears, ranch dressing and milk; Jan. 14-chili, cinnamon roll, carrots, applesauce and milk; Jan. 19-barbecue chicken drumsticks, garlic toast, au gratin potatoes, peaches and milk.

ECCA: The Emida Community Center Association will meet on Jan. 19 at the Emida Community Center, 6 p.m. Dues are $5 for the year. All community members are welcome to join.

UCU: The UpRiver Community United will meet on Jan. 19 at the Fernwood CAF Building, 6:30 p.m.
