A new restaurant is open in St. Maries though visitors might not have noticed save some subtle changes.
While the sign for My Kitchen still hangs above the Main Avenue restaurant it is now the Timber Lodge Café. The new owners Jeff Ritchie and Kelsey Smith were eager to get started.
“We just wanted to jump in headfirst,” Ms. Smith said.
However eager to get started, the co-owners are less eager to make drastic changes.
“We’re going to give it a month. We don’t want to change everything. We want to see what people like,” Mr. Ritchie said.
So far, the most noticeable change is in the removal of old wall décor and a new coat of interior paint. They expect to complete renovations over the next two months.
“We’ll change the sign and give it a facelift, but we don’t want to change the roots,” Mr. Ritchie said.
In time, the couple plans to add dinner hours, change some menu options and rely more on fresh ingredients.
“We want to make things fresh and steer away from frozen … we want to do good burgers and handmake our own patties. You can tell when it’s fresh,” Mr. Ritchie said.
They also plan to do their baking in house.
“It’ll be homemade—muffins, cupcakes, the whole shebang,” Ms. Smith said.
The new owners plan to open for July 4, as a practice run for dinner service. Though tentative, menu options may include meatloaf, potatoes, chili cheese dogs and a fried egg burger.
Plans for July 4, and the restaurant in general, will be shared on the Timber Lodge Café Facebook page.
The couple, who recently moved from California, said they look forward to joining the community.
“We want to be a part of the community and help out and be a staple,” Mr. Ritchie said.
