Two Benewah County residents were transported by Life Flight after a single vehicle accident near St. Maries River Road, April 4.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a vehicle traveling on Whiskey Lane left the roadway and required emergency assistance.

A Benewah County Sheriff’s Office Deputy arrived on scene at approximately 7:44 a.m. to discover a male driver and female passenger trapped in a 1992 Chevy pickup. Both occupants of the vehicle required extrication and were evacuated by Life Flight.

According to the Sheriff’s Office the male was transported to Coeur d’Alene and the female was transported to Seattle for emergency care.

The Sheriff’s Office declined to release the identities of the individuals pending results of an ongoing investigation. Undersheriff Morris said the male was from the Fernwood area and the female was from St. Maries. The families of the victims have been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office was unable to provide an update on their current medical condition.

St. Maries Ambulance, St. Maries Fire Department, Plummer-Gateway Fire Department, O’Gara Fire Department and Life Flight also responded to the accident.
