Avista is seeking a rate increase from Idaho customers.

The company filed a request with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission this week that would increase the average household’s electric bill by 3.5%. The company said the increase is needed to pay the cost of infrastructure and maintenance.

“We’re making significant investments in our infrastructure and systems every year to maintain, upgrade and ensure the safety, reliability and resiliency of the equipment and facilities that serve our customers every day,” Avista President Dennis Vermillion said.

Ratepayer can submit written comment in the company’s request by mailing the Idaho Public Utilities Commission at Box 83270, Boise, Idaho 83720.

If approved the increase would be effective Jan. 1.
