Palouse Basin water users have until Aug. 30, 2019 to file water rights claims in the Palouse Basin Adjudication.

About 900 water rights claims have been filed. Officials expect that approximately 1,500 claims will be filed by the deadline.

Idaho Department of Water Resources staff assisted more than 650 people and received more than 665 water right claims at the May and June workshops at the Latah County Fairgrounds & Events Center.

Water users who have not yet filed claims can download claim forms from IDWR’s website. They can also complete and submit claims online. Paper claim forms also are available by mail or at the IDWR Coeur d’Alene or state office, upon request.

IDWR staff are available to assist water users over the phone or in person by appointment at the Boise and Coeur d’Alene offices.

To prepare a water rights claim, people should have a copy their property tax notice with parcel information, any related water right records, and knowledge of the facts related to the development of water use on their property, especially the date when the water was first used, also known as the priority date. IDWR requires evidence to support the claimed priority date and recommends supplying a statement supporting the priority date if no other evidence can be found.”

For additional information, including the filing fee schedule, go to or call the Adjudication hotline (800) 451-4129 or the Northern Region Office.
