A Harrison resident died after falling through ice on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Feb. 16, 2021.
Leslie G. Daniels, 77, ventured onto the ice, near the area of Harlow Point, to rescue an animal according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office
Bystanders attempted to rescue the woman using ropes and a canoe. East Side Fire and the Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team were later able to recover Ms. Daniels. At the time of her rescue, she was unconscious and could not be revived according to the KCSO.
The KCSO advised that the current weather conditions have made for thin ice conditions. They also asked that if someone does see an animal trapped on ice to contact the sheriff’s office for assistance.
Ms. Daniels was the second person to die after falling through ice in the Lake Coeur d’Alene area.
The body of Dale G. Renfro, 60, was recovered by the Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team after he fell through ice on Blue Lake, near Harrison, Jan. 29. Relatives said he was likely ice fishing at the time. Mr. Renfro was a native of Santa, ID, reported to be living in Spokane, WA, prior to his death.
