Local libraries have reopened with slight safety protocols.

The Tri-Community Library in Fernwood opened its doors on May 11, and Librarian John Smith said things have been going smooth.

He said that staff has implemented social distancing policies and unfortunately the library won’t be a hangout spot for local children until further notice.

“Typically we like the teens to hang out, but we are not allowing that at this time,” Mr. Smith said. “We are encouraging people to take care of business and move on.”

Mr. Smith said that the library has returned to its regular hours and will be open Monday through Saturday.

The Plummer Library reopened this week but with an adjustment to its regular hours.

The library will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Library Director Paulina Freeburg said that the Plummer Library should return to its normal hours Tuesday May 26.

She also announced that the library’s children’s summer reading program has been rescheduled and will be online this year. Students will be able to participate in a program called Readsquared starting June 18.

Ms. Freeburg said that details for signing your child up for the program will be available by next week.

The St. Maries Public Library also opened this week with limitations to computer access and other services.

Library staff will enforce social distancing measures and the library will allow a maximum of ten people inside the building at a time.

Computer use has been limited to four computers for adults and there will be no children’s computers available at this time.

Masks are required upon entry. The library has returned to its normal weekly hours opening at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays and 12:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

The Tensed returned to normal hours at the beginning of May according to Tensed Mayor Richard Keaveny. Extra protocols such as mask or social distancing requirements were not reported.
