The St. Maries Nazarene Church plans to offer school supplies to area children in need.

The local church will have to scale back the variety of items that it can offer this year. Usually, the church provides new winter coats as well as other clothing items.

This year the Nazarene will only offer backpacks and school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, and more as a result of circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Destrie Brown, the office manager at the Nazarene Church, said that parents can expect to see longer lines this year due to the changes.

“Usually, we have a few different stations set up because we will have a variety of items,” Ms. Brown said. “This year since there is only the school supplies and backpacks, there will only be one station so there may be more of a wait time than usual.”

Ms. Brown also said that those who attend must also have their child present with them to receive school items.

School supplies will be available to everyone in the community while supplies last.

The giveaway event will be on August 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the gymnasium of the Nazarene Church.
