St. Maries American Legion Post 25 will host a barbecue at Mullan Trail Park for eligible veterans and their families interested in joining.

“It’s a recruitment drive for the Legion. We’re hoping to get veterans interested in joining to come check us out,” Post 25 treasurer Dale Hill said.

The American Legion sponsors a local baseball team, cares for the St. Maries veteran’s memorial, supports veteran causes and provides military burials for local veterans, among other community services.

The Legion will provide soda, water and burgers for the barbecue, according to Post Commander Jim Shubert. Attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

The barbecue will also feature a rifle raffle and other prizes.

The event begins 5 p.m. July 9, at Mullan Park across Woodlawn Cemetery on State 5.
