A St. Maries man was killed in a single vehicle accident Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Anthony J. McKuin, 21, was the passenger in a side-by-side traveling on the St. Joe River Road, near milepost 3, at approximately 8:55 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

According to Benewah County Sheriff Tony Eells, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times. McKuin succumbed to his injuries on scene after efforts of resuscitation were unsuccessful.

The driver of the side-by-side received only minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The identity of the driver was not released as their charges are pending further investigation. Sheriff Eells said that alcohol, drugs and excessive speed are all considered factors at this time.

Sheriff Eells said he did not know if either of the occupants were wearing seatbelts or safety equipment as he was not on scene at the time.

The BCSO and St. Maries Ambulance responded.

The investigation is ongoing.
