Multiple organizations in Benewah County were selected for Idaho Community Foundation grants.
BetterCare, Upriver Community United, Snake River Community Clinic, East Benewah Council for Aging,
Inc. and the Hughes House Historical Society all received grants. The organizations plan to use the grant funding to address community needs related to health, welfare and educational programs.
The ICF distributed more than $16,000 to Benewah County organizations and another $6,500 to St. Maries School District 41 to support the COVID-19 food delivery program. The ICF provided $245,000 in grants to 61 north Idaho community organizations across multiple counties.
Speaking on behalf of BetterCare, Carol Humphrey said the funds would purchase needed equipment and supplies for Benewah Community Hospital.
“We were thrilled,” Ms. Humphrey said. “It is needed.”
Approximately $7,200 was provided to BetterCare.
Chris Ashmead of Upriver Community United said that the approximately $9,815 awarded will be used to bolster food bank supplies, purchase a freezer and shelving.
Funds are allowed to be used for whatever the greatest needs of the recipients. In previous years funds were granted for specific projects. ICF North Region Development Officer Kristi Scott said that the scope of donation use was broadened this year to help organizations offset the impact of COVID-19.
