The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed suspect attempting to steal a helicopter Sunday, July 18. 

Deputies were called to the scene at approximately 5:52 p.m. by a party reporting an armed man approaching fire personnel in their helicopter at the Shoshone County Airport.

 A deputy soon arrived to the scene and located the armed suspect. When confronted the suspect fired multiple shots from a handgun into the air and the ground as more than 30 firefighting personnel on scene fled. 

The SCSO Deputy ordered the suspect to drop his weapon in which he complied and was taken into custody with the help of a second SCSO Deputy and the Idaho State Police.

 No law enforcement officers discharged weapons during the encounter.

 No further information has been released at the time of this report and the investigation is still ongoing.
