The Wonderful-Shefoot trail system encompasses more than 10 motorized trails, many of which can be ridden in a matter of days.

Telichpah Creek Trail #196, one of the St. Joe’s most popular, is connected by several trails in the area, including Nelson Ridge, which leaves the St. Joe River Road just outside of Avery.

In total, the loop connecting Telichpah Creek and Nelson Ridge comes in at a little less than 13 miles.

Beginning on the Nelson Ridge end, the route includes steep rockslide portions, narrow side hilling and brushy areas where wildlife and stock users could be encountered. Coming down the Telichpah Creek side entails gentle grade along the gorgeous Telichpah Creek, which is crossed by motorcycle-friendly bridges twice in its six miles.

Once at the trailhead of Trail #196, riders can follow the North Fork of the St. Joe River roughly five miles back to Avery, where the trailhead for #186 sits close by.

Check with the USFS for current trail conditions, which vary through summer.
