Lakeside Elementary students can expect to not have cold feet this winter thanks to two generous businesses.

Optum Idaho and North 40 Outfitters are working together in a giving effort called “Give Cold Feet the Boot.” On November 19 all of the Lakeside Elementary students were given a new pair of boots and a pair of socks.

Lakeside Elementary is one of four schools throughout Idaho to receive the free boots from Optum Idaho. Free boots were also given to students at Heritage Academy in Jerome, Donald D. Stalker Elementary School in Blackfoot, and Westside Elementary in Payette.

Optum Idaho said in a press release that thousands of kids each year arrive to school during the winter months without proper footwear.

They said that cold children tend to have a harder time learning and that it puts a strain on teachers, administration and support staff.

Optum Idaho is a health care company that manages the outpatient benefits for the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan for Medicaid members.
