The Lakeside girls basketball team lost its first game in over a month last weekend.

But the defeat may do more good than harm to the Knights, who have thus far gone untested in the North Star League.

A three-point loss to Garfield-Palouse Jan. 11 put the team at 8-3, 4-0 NSL going into a string of three consecutive NSL contests against Mullan (Jan. 16), Clark Fork (Jan. 18) and Genesis Prep (Jan. 21), two of which Lakeside saw in December. In wins over Clark Fork and Mullan last month, Lakeside outscored the pair by a combined total of 121-41.

“It was a good game for us, even though we ended up losing,” Coach Chris Dohrman said of the Garfield-Palouse loss. “We need some tough, close games to test us. We had opportunities to win, but just came up short. We’ll continue to improve so we can win these close, competitive games.”

The Knights earned a three-point halftime lead over Garfield-Palouse Jan. 11 at Ron Miller Court. The two teams would go into the fourth frame tied, where Lakeside was outscored 15-18 in the 46-49 loss.

Jolissa Holt scored a team-high 23 points in the effort.
