The trailhead for Malin Ridge #197 is one of the most scenic in the St. Joe drainage.

Beginning at the point where Malin Creek runs into the St. Joe River, trail #197 follows the easy-going Malin Creek for half a mile before jutting south on a steep switchback that gains 200 feet in elevation.

From that point, Malin Ridge Trail heads east for roughly a mile, in which time the path gradually climbs from approximately 3,400 feet in elevation to 4,200 feet.

The payoff at the end of trail #197 is a spectacular view from Malin Point (5,095 ft.). The path continues on and meets up with the Malin Peak OHV trail, which travels east to west between Bird Creek and Eagle Creek and connects two large pieces of country.
