A burglary last week north of Harrison ended with an arrest made by a local SWAT team.

A joint agency SWAT team and Kootenai County K-9 units arrested Justin A Klauba, 38, Post Falls, after an hour standoff in the Gotham Bay area.

Klauba has been charged with malicious injury to property, felony burglary, felony eluding and resisting arrest.

The Kootenai County 911 Center received a call at 8:10 p.m. November 17, from a homeowner who was reporting a possible burglary at his residence.

According to a report issued by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), the homeowner said he was able to see the suspect and his vehicle on security cameras. The call prompted a response from several deputies.

One deputy located Klauba’s vehicle and attempted to stop him, however Klauba failed to stop and was pursued by police. During the pursuit Klauba stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road.

When the pursuing Deputy exited his vehicle and gave commands for Klauba to exit his vehicle, Klauba rammed the officer’s patrol vehicle, disabling it.

The KCSO reported as more deputies responded to the area, the suspect was then located behind a locked gate to another property. The suspect resisted commands to exit his vehicle.

The Joint Agency SWAT team was requested to the scene due the suspect failing to follow commands and police were notified that Klauba had stolen a firearm from the victim’s residence.

Klauba was taken into custody with minor injuries due to a K-9 bite. No deputies were injured.

Klauba has no prior criminal history in Kootenai County.
