Donald (Donnie) P. Olson, 66, longtime resident of Fernwood, died at his home on April 27, 2016 after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was born to Phillip and Thelma (Walters) Olson on January 18, 1950 in Coos Bay, OR. At two years old, Donald lost his father, and the family relocated to Fernwood, ID. His mother married Butch Isaacson and he raised Donnie and his sister Vicci as his own.
A graveside service for Bernita J. Harp, 95, was Monday, May 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Evergreen Cemetery at Rosalia, WA. Pastor Kathy Kramer will officiate at the service. Mrs. Harp died Wednesday morning in Spokane from age related causes.
Robert P. Bowen, 73, died April 29 2016 at LaCrosse Health and Rehab. Center in Coeur d’ Alene. He was born August 31, 1942 to Raymond and Maxine (Phillips) Bowen in Wardner, Idaho. Bob was raised in St. Maries, Idaho and graduated from St. Maries High School with the Class of 1960.
Lou Ella Mather, 90, resident of St. Maries, died April 29, 2016 at Valley Vista Care Center in St. Maries. She was born Feb. 12, 1926 to Virgil and Ethel (Atchley) Long at Parks, AR. She grew up in Parks, AR and graduated from high school there with the class of 1944. Following her graduation, she moved with her family to Corcoran, CA. Lou Ella worked at Yuba City, CA in the area orchards harvesting fruit. This is where she met Gordon Mather while they were working there together. They were married in September of 1946. Lou Ella moved to Linda, CA in 1950. She was a homemaker and raised her family. In 1976, Lou Ella started working as a seamstress for a local dry cleaning company. Her husband died in 1990. She retired in 1994. Lou Ella moved to Silverton, ID in 2013 and to St. Maries in July of 2015. Lou Ella enjoyed crocheting, gardening and playing with her grand and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Emanuel Faith Tabernacle Church of Marysville, CA.
Jean Dilley, 86, passed away at Valley Vista Care Center on May 1, 2016 in St. Maries. She was born to William and Isabella Laing on November 26, 1929 in Highland Park, IL. Jean grew up in Illinois graduating from Highland Park High School in 1947.
Dorothy passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on April 14, 2016. She was born April 25, 1944. The youngest child of Dan and Mary MacLeod. Dorothy graduated from St Maries High in 1961.
David Allen Holstein, 75, died December 29, 2015 at LaCrosse Health & Rehab Center in Coeur d’ Alene, ID due to complications of Parkinson’s and Dementia. David was born to Samuel and Myrtle (Recter) Holstein on October 21, 1940 in St. Maries, ID. He grew up and attended school in St. Maries.
John Brewster, 77, of Harrison Idaho, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
James Arlo Sargent, 83, resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Valley Vista Care Center on April 12, 2016, after a short stay at Benewah Community Hospital. He was born February 19, 1933 to Ralph and Olga (Shave) Sargent in Ripon, WI. Jim grew up in Ripon and Green Lake, WI, and graduated with the class of 1951 from Ripon High School.
William J. "Bill" Palbicki Jr., 81, resident of St. Maries, ID died April 14, 2016 at his home in St. Maries under Hospice care. He was born November 26, 1934 to William and Laura (Selke) Palbicki Sr. at Winona, MN.
Madeline M. Lockard, 87, longtime resident of St. Maries died April 14, 2016. She was born to Abe and Pearl Bessette on March 1, 1929 in Argonne, WI. Madeline attended school in Argonne until the eighth grade. After her schooling she worked on her family’s farm.
Keith Wayne Nelson, 53, died April 10, 2016. He was born September 11, 1962 in Price, Utah to J. Rulon Nelson and Ruth McConkie Nelson.
Mary Ann Gokee died peacefully on March 15, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona. Mary Ann was born April 8, 1946 in Gooding, Idaho. She was raised in Spokane and attended Hutton Grade School, Lewis and Clark High School and University of Washington. Mary Ann was smart and extremely witty. She had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile.
Carlos Henry Carrillo Sr., 70, of Van Nuys, California suffered from heart failure and died peacefully at his daughter Loretta’s home in DeSmet on April 8, 2016. He was born to Carlos and Sarah (Buelnas) Carrillo in Van Nuys, CA on July 28, 1945. Carlos grew up in Van Nuys, and as a young man he performed various odd jobs to support himself.
Florence Smok Farber, 88, longtime and dearly loved resident of Harrison, died April 8, 2016 at Village at Orchard Ridge Care Center in Coeur d’ Alene. She was born January 4, 1928 to Peter and Caroline ( Baran) Smok at Chicago, IL. She grew up there and graduated from high school in 1948.
Joyce E. Sterkel, 85, a Fernwood resident, died April 7, 2016 at her home in Fernwood while under Hospice Care. She was born February 8, 1931 to William and Garnet (Culver) Woodward at Yankton, SD.
Shelley was born in Moscow, ID, grew up in Fernwood and attended high school in neighboring St. Maries.
Ralph Carl Fields, 89, resident of St. Maries, died April 4, 2016 at Hospice House of North Idaho. He was born April 22, 1926 to Carl and Vanila (Gibson) Fields at St. Maries.
Martha Jean Scourey, St. Maries, Idaho resident and formerly of Pullman, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston from complications of dementia. She was 77. A memorial service was Monday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Martha was born March 9, 1939 in Colfax to William J. and M. Pauline (Abercrombie) Hammar. The family lived in Pullman on Water Street in a house that William built where Martha and her twin sister Mary grew up. Martha graduated from Pullman High School in 1957. She played badminton on the high school team and was a member of the senior class officers and of Treble Triad and also had learned to play the piano along the way. She attended WSC in Pullman for one year.
Funeral services for Michael ‘Mike’ Faber, 67, were yesterday at the Rose Creek Longhouse in Worley, ID. Rosary was March 28 at the Longhouse. Burial followed at the DeSmet Mission Cemetery at DeSmet with military honors. Mr. Faber passed away Wednesday , March 23, at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene from cancer.
Sylvia Dorothy Shields, 85, resident of St. Maries, died at Hospice House in Coeur d’ Alene on March 18, 2016. She was born to William and Sylvia (Fredericks) Jacquel on September 10, 1930 in West Milford, NJ. Sylvia grew up in Hewitt, NJ, and in 1947 she married John L. Shields. The couple started their family right away.
Pauline Elizabeth Kuehn Gibbons Brooke, 101, died March 18, 2016. She loved music, language, words, story-telling, honesty and good manners. She would much rather have it noted that she died, rather than passed away or passed.

Timothy Alan Layne Brusky, 23, died at his home in Spokane March 11, 2016. He was born February 4, 1993 in Kellogg, ID. Tim grew up in Fernwood and St. Maries. He attended St. Maries High School where he played football until illness forced him to quit. He graduated with the class of 2013 from St. Maries High School.
Ralph D. Sutton, 85, resident of Lewiston, ID died at Valley Vista Care Center in St. Maries on March 16, 2016. He was born to Lloyd and Esther (Campbell) Sutton on September 26, 1930 in Wichita, KS. Ralph graduated from Olathe High School in Olathe, KS.
Sharon Lenore Jenicek, 71, died at her home above Swan Lake on March 16, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was born to Morris and Cora (Culp) Torgerson on July 25, 1944 in Spokane, WA. Sharon and her family lived in several locations in California and the Silver Valley, Idaho when she was a child. She graduated with the class of 1966 from Kellogg High School.
Carol J. Feasline, 82, of St. Maries, died March 15, 2016 at the Hospice House of North Idaho. Carol was born December 9, 1933 in Canton, Ohio to James and Elsie Barnes.

Miriam R. Palmer, 63, resident of St. Maries died March 8, 2016 at Benewah Community Hospital in St. Maries. She was born Nov. 24, 1952 to Clifford and Barbara (Wassem) Palmer in Albuquerque, NM.
Dallace Dwayne Kellom died March 7, 2016 at his home in Bovill surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 10, 1935 to Harold and Eunice (Linderman) Kellom in Bovill, ID.
Ricky "Rick" Lee Powell, 62, died March 12, 2016 at his home in Newman Lake near Spokane, WA. He was born March 30, 1953 in St. Maries to Clell and Mina "Bridgie" Lee Sweeney Johnson. His parents later divorced and his mother married Dennis W. Powell who then adopted Rick and his younger brother Scott.
Robert L. Allen, 78, resident and former mayor of St. Maries, died March 3, 2016 at the Hospice House in Coeur d’ Alene. He was born to Edgar and Leona (Waddell) Allen on June 18, 1937 in St. Maries. He attended school in St. Maries, and following his schooling he enlisted into the United States Navy where he received his GED.
Funeral services for Eldon W. Shaw, 92, will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tensed Community Center in Tensed. Pastors Kathy Kramer and Marlow Thompson will officiate at the service. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Mr. Shaw, a lifelong area resident, died March 2, 2016 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.
Gary E. Cochran, 72, resident of St. Maries, died March 6, 2016 at Benewah Community Hospital. He was born July 17, 1943 to Glen and Opal (Herren) Cochran at Vandalia, MO.
Florence V. Willson, 94, resident of Harrison, died March 2, 2016 in Kellogg, ID. She was born to Oscar and Hilma (Larson) Tang on May 5, 1921 in Boltineau, ND. She married Russell Willson in Rapid City, SD on November 29, 1939. While living in Rapid City, she enjoyed bowling. Her team went to many state and national tournaments. She was a member of the 600 Club. Florence worked for Piggly Wiggly grocery stores and Nash Finch. She retired in June 1981 and moved with Russell to Harrison.
John L. Thomas, 78, resident of St. Maries, died at his home on March 2, 2016. He was born to Joseph and Virginia Thomas on October 2, 1937 in Baltimore, MD. John grew up in Toledo, OH graduating from Macomber High School with the class of 1955. Following high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps. After his service with the military, John attended Ohio State University and earned a degree in software engineering.
Lester Jordan Cuthbert, 91, died February 26, 2016 in Plummer. He was born April 25, 1924 in Rigby, ID to Arthur and Dora Cuthbert. Following Lester’s schooling he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps.) and met Ruth Schick in Montpelier, ID. The couple married on June 24, 1945 in Montpelier. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple July 3, 1963. Lester worked for Idapine Mills in Ontario, OR; however the mill was dismantled and placed in Grangeville. The family relocated to Grangeville in 1954, and he continued working at Idapine Mills. In 1984, Lester retired from the mill. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Patrick M. Gaskill, 60, resident of Fernwood, died Feb. 13, 2016 at Benewah Community Hospital. Pat was born January 26, 1956 at Lewiston, ID. He was adopted, along with his brother Scott, by Lloyd and Florence Gaskill who brought them to St. Maries shortly after Pat’s birth.
Eugene "Louie" John Yarber Sr., 70, of Post Falls, died Thursday February 18, 2016 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’ Alene. Louie was born February 6, 1946 in Tekoa, WA to Ralph and Marina (Marquardt) Yarber. Louie grew up in the Benewah Valley near St. Maries where he attended and graduated from St. Maries High School in 1966.
Robert L. Stortzum, 68, died of cancer February 11, 2016 in Beaverton, OR. He is the son of Velda Ausman of Fernwood.
Carol Ann Clark, 79, a resident of St. Maries, died February 21, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Clifford and Mildred (Munyan) Cronk in Western, NE on April 29, 1936. Carol grew up in Portland, OR attending Grant High School graduating with the class of 1952. Following high school, Carol attended Good Samaritan Nursing School.
David Gordon Redding, 80, died January 21, 2016 in Chico, CA. He was born to Ralph and Rachael (Fisher) Redding on September 14, 1935 in Westwood, CA. He had two siblings, Henry and Joann Baer. He graduated from Sonora, CA. in 1953 and enlisted in the Navy. In 1958, Dave was receiving Naval Nuclear Power training in Idaho Falls when he met and married Valerie Marlow. Together they had four children: David, Susan, Diana, and Daniel. He was stationed on the USS Pyro, Long Beach, Ranger, Vesuvius, and Midway. He served in Vietnam. Later Dave was chosen for his marksmanship to protect flights as a Sky Marshal. He served our country for 20 years, eventually retiring as an E9, Master Chief, Machinist Mate. In 1974, he married Marjorie Richins and became a father for her children: Jim, Martha, Jay and Liz. Dave attended and received an Associate’s degree at Butte Community College where he worked in the Automotive department until his retirement in 2000. Dave was a member of LDS Ward 5, Chico California where he served as a Bishop. He enjoyed traveling both in the Navy, for Missions and for simple pleasure. He sailed the seven seas and visited all continents. Dave loved spending time with his family, reading Louis L’Amour, fishing and collecting coins. He was proceeded in death by his son David, brother Hank, and his mom, Rae. He is survived by his sister Jody (Steve) Buckholz of Oakdale, CA., his daughters: Susan (Sam) Dittman of St. Maries, Martha Smith of Chico, CA., Diana Redding of Portland, OR., and Liz (Geoff) Womack of Roanoke, TX., his sons: Jim Landerman of Chico, CA.,Jay Landerman of Durham, CA.,and Daniel (Barbara) Redding of St. Helens, OR., and his grandchildren: John Lands, Sasha (Eric) Spangler, Jacob Redding, Eric (Kirstie) Redding, Theresa, Jessica, Rebecca, Ian, and Gerard Dittman, and Hannah, Olivia, and Clair Womack, and Shiana Landerman.
Dorrine McGarvey, 56, died of cancer in Lewiston February 11, 2016. She was born October 14, 1959 to Jack and Mary (Cleavinger) Brumbaugh in Moscow.
Melita Lenora Johnson, 92, of Potlatch, ID, died December 28, 2015. She had been recuperating from a stroke for the past four months at Aspen Care and Rehab Center, Moscow. The family is grateful for Aspen staff’s kind care for Melita.
Ollie Odessa Stanley, 104, died February 15, 2016 at Valley Vista in St. Maries. She was born October 20, 1911, in Granby, Missouri, the daughter of Robert C. and Melvina J. Arnall.
William Ronald Derr, 69, died February 13, 2016. He was born at home in Falmouth, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1946 to Minnie (Runkle) and William Derr and grew up in Falmouth where he enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities including fishing the Susquehanna River and hunting.
