On the morning of May 23, 2019 Eugenia “Jeannie” Swendener of Coeur d’ Alene died at the age of 72.
Jeannie was born to Harry and Virgie Kennon in Doniphan, Missouri and later moved to Emida, Idaho. She went to school in Emida and St. Maries High School.
She spent part of the 60s and 70s as a U.S. diplomat in various third-world countries. She relocated to Coeur d’ Alene in the early 70s and worked at the GE Phone Mart while earning her degree in Psychology.
Jeannie married John Swendener in 1976. They enjoyed trips to the West Coast and visiting family in St. Maries.
She spent more than 20 years as a volunteer for the U.S. Selective Service and retired from Hospice of North Idaho after more than 20 years of service as a grief counselor.
Jeannie is preceded in death by her twin boys Robbie and Ronnie Cope; brother Thomas Kennon; and parents Harry and Virgie Kennon.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, John Swendener; children Julie Cope-Creed of Orange County, Calif., Susie and Shawn Gray of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; and Tom and Natalie Swendener of Beaverton, Ore; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. Maries Humane Society or Hospice of North Idaho.
A celebration of life will be planned for late July in St. Maries, Idaho.
