Gerald L. Hibbs, 66, a resident of Sanders, Idaho since 2015, died Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from cancer.
Gerald was born July 5, 1953 at Dallas, Ore. to DeWayne ‘Gene’ and Molly (Henry) Hibbs. He was raised in Philomath, Ore. where he attended schools and graduated from Philomath High School. He made his home in Philomath until 2015 when he retired and moved to northern Idaho to be near his family.
Gerald worked at the Hull-Oakes Lumber Mill in Monroe, Oregon for 42 years. He was a lift truck operator and rail car and truck loader at the mill.
Gerald married Beverly Stevens on December 20, 2018 at DeSmet, and the couple made their home near Sanders. He was a member of the Sanders Community Church.
Gerald’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed gardening and canning. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed working on his home construction jobs. He was a loving, caring and quiet man of integrity who took into his home many kids and young adults who needed a temporary home.
Survivors include his wife Beverly at the Sanders home; two children, Craig Hibbs of Philomath and Sandy Hibbs of Corvallis, Ore.; step-children Mark, Krista, Luke, Kyle, Melissa, Levi, Breanna, Brittney and Rachel; his siblings, Michael (Deb) Hibbs of Sanders, Peggy (Dennis) Culley of Sanders and Nancy (Jim) Johnson of Rose Lake, Ore. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at the Sanders Community Church Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Willlms officiating. Urn burial will follow at the Sanders Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to the Sanders Community Church.
