For as long as I can remember, I have always looked forward to reading our little hometown newspaper on Wednesdays. I even sold subscriptions to it back in the 70s as a kid as a way to earn some pocket money.

Lately it seems something is lacking. Perhaps newsworthy articles. I was disappointed to see that the “highlights” of the 2021 sheriff’s log made the front page in this week’s edition.

Clearly, there are people in our small community that suffer from mental illness, etc. so by displaying this in the paper weekly, let alone deeming it front page worthy, is an insult to the people who reached out to the sheriff’s office and as far as I’m concerned is poking fun and making a mockery of why they called in the first place.

Is this for entertainment purposes? I believe SM is a generous, proud, hardworking, down to earth bunch of folks and I’m sure you could have found something more dignified as far as a highlight of 2021 for the front page. Shame on you.
