St. Maries’ girls basketball team pulled down 48 rebounds and earned its first win of the season Nov. 23 in the consolation round of the Silver Valley Tournament.

Sami Badgett scored 15 points and Mackenzie Hammond added 10 as the Lumberjacks defeated Potlatch 56-22.

“They played so well together,” Coach Kimberly O’Connor said. “I was very proud of them. They focused, and their attitudes reflected that they were eager to earn a win.”

Macie Rimel added nine points and Jenna Holder seven. Sierra Christensen and Stacie Mitchell chipped in five points apiece, Bianney Ventura had two, Katrina Koser two and Kirsten Miller one.

The girls faced Kellogg in the opening round of the tournament Nov. 22. Sami led the team in scoring with nine points in the 33-44 loss.

“They built an eight-point lead on us in the first half, and we just never dug ourselves out,” Coach O’ Connor commented. “During practices that week we worked on rebounding, and did much better that game.”

Taci added seven points, Macie six, Jenna four, Katrina four and Bianney three in the effort.

Mackenzie pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, followed by Katrina with seven and Taci with seven.

The girls dropped a game at Sandpoint Nov. 19 by a score of 33-58.

Jenna led St. Maries with 11 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Sami with 10, Taci four, Macie three, Sierra three and Stacie two.

“Sandpoint shot lights out, and we had too many turnovers,” Coach O’ Connor said.

The girls played at Lakeland Nov. 26 and travel to Wallace Tuesday, Dec. 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
