Lakeside became the first boys basketball team among North Star 1AD2 squads to defeat Genesis Prep, doing so last week at Ron Miller Court without starting guard Kenyon Spotted Horse, who went down midway through the first quarter with an ankle sprain.

Coach James Twoteeth said Kenyon could return as soon as Wednesday, when the top-ranked Knights travel to Wallace.

After that, Lakeside’s perfect record will face one of its toughest tests as it plays three games in four days, closing the week with games at Genesis Prep (Friday) and Garfield-Palouse (Saturday).

“If Kenyon is ready to go, I think he will make a huge difference,” Coach Twoteeth said. “He does so much for our team.”

Lakeside (11-0, 5-0 NSL) went 2-0 in Kenyon’s absence, getting past Genesis Prep at home last Tuesday in a game that was spread by less than five points until the final minute.

The Jaguars were forced to put the Knights on the foul line, where they extended their lead to 11 for a fifth consecutive NSL victory in front of a raucous full house at Ron Miller Court.

The two teams will square off Friday at Genesis Prep for the second of two regular season meetings.

Day Day Higgins and Talon Twoteeth led Lakeside in its 47-36 win over Genesis Prep Jan. 21.

Junior Jasper Abuan scored two points in the contest, a pair of free throws late in regulation to help seal victory, and freshman Vander Brown played big minutes in place of Kenyon, scoring 10 points.
