The St. Maries volleyball team faded in the third game of a straight-set loss to Kellogg Aug. 31.
The 17-25, 23-25, 13-25 defeat was St. Maries’ season opener. The Wildcats had played six matches to that point.
“Kellogg was a tough opponent for our first game of the year, and just getting back after a week off,” Coach Rachele Fischer said.
The Lumberjacks were originally scheduled to open their season Aug. 26 at Wallace, but had that match, along with the Lewiston Invite, canceled following a positive COVID test within the program.
“The girls were glad to be back in the gym,” Coach Fischer said. “It was good to play and get some game experience for our younger players, and see what we need to work on.”
Lily Daniel dished out 13 assists and served 13 aces in the effort and Berkli McGreal had 15 digs for St. Maries.
Up Next: The Lumberjacks (0-1) will make up their season opener at Wallace Wednesday (today) at 7 p.m. and open league play Saturday at Orofino, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
