After starting the season with 10 consecutive losses, the St. Maries High School volleyball team has won four of its last six matches.
One of those four will count toward St. Maries’ league record, following a straight-set victory over Grangeville Oct. 5.
Jayden Martin had five kills and three aces, Kirsten Miller eight kills and two blocks and Mackenzie Hammond 16 aces as the Lumberjacks earned a 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 win.
“After a rough start to our season we have been able to find our groove,” Coach Rachele Asbury commented. “They continue to learn from errors and gain confidence in themselves and each other. Our serving is also looking much better.”
Allie Brebner led St. Maries in digs with 14, followed by Sami Badgett with 11. Berkli McGreal served five aces as her team improved to 4-13, 1-0 CIL.
Jayden recorded 15 kills Oct. 1 in a 25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21 win over Priest River. The Jacks had previously fallen to the Spartans in straight sets, Sept. 12, in the first meeting between the two teams.
Kirsten added 12 kills, Mackenzie dished out 37 assists, Berkli had 17 digs and five aces and Allie tallied 21 digs.
The team played at Timberlake Oct. 8, travel to Orofino for a league match Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and host Bonners Ferry Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
