The St. Maries volleyball team has two more road contests before returning for its home opener next week.

The Lumberjacks, fresh off a five-set defeat at Kellogg and set to open league play Saturday at Grangeville, host Wallace Sept. 29 for the first of five scheduled home matches.

Mackenzie Hammond dished out 12 assists and Jayden Martin recorded seven kills Sept. 15 at Kellogg in a 15-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 13-15 loss.

“It was good to have the girls back in the gym,” Coach Rachele Asbury, now in her fifth season with the Lumberjacks, said. “Kellogg has some solid players and they made us work, and getting our first game in is what we needed, so we could see the things we need to work on.”

This week’s match at Grangeville will be a CIL opener for St. Maries, while the Bulldogs are set to host both of their Central Idaho League opponents in the next four days, including Orofino Thursday before welcoming the Lumberjacks Saturday.

Upcoming: St. Maries (0-1) plays at Timberlake Thursday (6:30 p.m.) and Grangeville Saturday (1:30 p.m.).
