You know you’re good when you can win without your best performance.
That’s exactly what St. Maries senior Bethan Suchoski did May 2 at the Meet of Champions.
Bethan came up short by her own pole vaulting standards at the meet that pits District One’s top athletes against one another, finishing with a mark of 9-06.00, six inches shy of her personal best.
The mark was still good enough to win the event.
“These are the 16 best athletes in North Idaho going head to head,” Coach Aaron Cloud said. “So getting first place at this meet cements Bethan’s position in the state as a seasoned and dominant athlete.”
Bethan set a personal-best in long jump at 14-00.00 to take sixth.
Clare Keogh was fourth in high jump with her height of 4-08.00 and Aubree Osier claimed fifth in triple jump with a distance of 30-06.00.
Luie Rice led the Lumberjack boys with a high jump height of 5-08.00, good for fifth place, and Justin Dittman recorded a 110 meter hurdle time of 19.42 for a 15th place finish.
“We will spend the next week prepping for districts and working hard to take as many as we can to state,” Coach Cloud commented.
St. Maries competes in the District Championships Friday and Saturday at Kamiah High School.
