Fourteen St. Maries wrestlers finished their days atop the podium at Reardan Saturday, and three others traveled to Arizona to compete in a national tournament.
Everett Lewis, Sam Jones, Aiden Yearout, Emmett Rivadeniera, Brock Anderson and Kody Tefft each went 3-0 for first place while teammates Trace Chatigny, Jerrett Brebner and Zack Sotin also had first-place finishes with 2-0 records apiece.
Landon Tweedy, Michael Stewart, Ethan Kolar and Tristan Tweedy took home second-place finishes with 2-1 records on the day, and Gabe Halloran placed third with a 3-1 day. JoJane Barta, Brock Barta and Scott Sotin also participated Saturday with 0-2 records each.
“The kids looked extremely sharp even with most of them being sick this last week,” Coach Charlie Skinner said. “Emmett Rivadeniera wrestled up a weight class and still pinned all of his opponents. Some of our boys are just wrestling on another level.”
Three members of the St. Maries Wrestling Club traveled to the Terminator World Championships in Prescott, AZ Saturday.
Rylen Harvey took home second place at the national tournament with a 5-1 record while his brothers Kelby went 2-3 for a sixth-place medal and Gradyn finished his bracket 0-2.
“The Terminator had over 1500 wrestlers representing 20 different states this year,” Coach Josh Harvey said. “The way Rylen wrestled was unbelievable. He had some nerves his first match and lost and then won five matches in a row all the way back through the consolation side of the bracket and winning a challenge match for second place. Kelby won his way into the semifinal match before losing and dropping to the consolation bracket and finishing in sixth place.”
