It was the third time Coach Chris Dohrman’s team faced Wallace, the first two meetings ending with four points of separation.

And when the tie-breaker at Post Falls High ended Monday, the two teams were on track for another close finish had they played a full game.

Vander Brown scored twice in the Kansas City-style tiebreaker, but it was Wallace that scored last, in the fourth session, and put together a stop on fourth down to end Lakeside’s season on a 14-20 defeat.

“We had our opportunities, we just came up a little short,” Coach Dohrman said. “It was a great season for us. Our last week and-a-half was a challenge with several players out, but our whole team stepped up and handled it well. I’m very proud of their effort, it was a fun group to be around.”

The Knights’ season ends, while Wallace will advance to face Oakley (7-1) in next week’s 1AD1 state playoffs.

Lakeside lost to Oakley 6-78 in the first round of last year’s state playoffs.

The SIC was forced into a tiebreaker following last week’s game between Wallace and Lakeside, where the Miners evened their league record at 1-1 with a 40-36 win over the Knights in Plummer.

Neither team scored on consecutive drives Oct. 22, but traded touchdowns the entire contest until Wallace found pay dirt last, with three minutes to play.

Lakeside touchdowns came from Jamari Peone (2), Vander Brown (3) and Jarius Moffit (1).

Lakeside ends its season with a 3-5 record.
