Their season consisted of two, five-match stretches.

And when it ended last week with a five-set loss to Grangeville, the St. Maries volleyball team’s coach Rachele Fischer felt it was just getting started.

“We had obstacles this year, with different breaks right when we would just get going,” Coach Fischer said. “We played almost half of our games in the last week, with only a couple practices to get us back into it after being off three weeks.”

Shelby Martin had 17 kills and Lily Daniel dished out 35 assists against Grangeville Oct. 20 as their team fell 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 9-15.

“We had a good lead several times in games one and two, but were not able to finish,” Coach Fischer said. “Our season was a roller coaster of ups and downs, playing great and then losing momentum. That was how we played that night as well.”

St. Maries closes its season with a 3-7 record.
