St. Maries' JV football team fell to 1-2 last week with a 0-49 loss at Freeman, Wash.

The Lumberjacks were down 0-25 at halftime, and conceded an additional 24 points in the second half.

St. Maries earned its first win two weeks ago at home, defeating Lakeside, Wash. 12-6 with a late touchdown run by Wesley Banderob, whose four-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run gave St. Maries the lead for good Sept. 3.

"The game was a defensive battle," Coach Jim Buckler said. "From my vantage point, I see a team that improves through the game and can potentially wear a team down in the fourth quarter."

Logan Darnold capped a successful third-quarter drive to open scoring as he found the end zone on an eight-yard rushing touchdown, giving his team a brief 6-0 lead.

Up Next: St. Maries' JV football team (1-2) travels to face Lakeland Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Lakeland High.
