A near-blunder against league foe Grangeville sent St. Maries’ softball team into a tough matchup May 11.

The Lumberjacks narrowly escaped a district consolation game with the Bulldogs, who they had outscored 52-21 going into districts, by a margin of 10-9 to advance to a state play-in contest with Melba.

St. Maries’ bats went cold in a matchup with the Mustangs, a season-ending 1-11 defeat.

The Jacks managed five hits in the loss, and despite holding Melba to two runs in the first three innings, conceded an eight-run fourth.

Allie Brebner plated the Lumberjacks lone run. Elizabeth Ragan, Alena Davenport, Allie, Jenna Holder and Kirsten Miller recorded one hit apiece.

Lexi Appell fanned two batters in three innings of work.

Lexi also pitched in St. Maries’ final district tournament game, where she struck out eight batters in four innings.

Allie recorded two RBIs and two runs in the Jacks’ 10-9 win over Grangeville May 9, and Jenna was 3-4 for two runs and one RBI. Alena went 2-3 with three runs, Elizabeth went 3-5 for one RBI and one run, Kirsten recorded two RBIs on 1-4 batting and Rose Walrod had one RBI and one run.

The Lumberjacks conclude their season on a 10-9 record.
