Nearly a month without a match played left St. Maries’ volleyball team with a tough task Oct. 11.
The Lumberjacks hosted Troy, winners of three state championships in five seasons, and fell to the Trojans in straight sets, 18-25, 14-25, 7-25.
“It was good to be back in the gym,” Coach Rachele Fischer said. “Troy is a tough opponent, and we were able to play with them in game one, but weren’t able to get into the groove. It’s tough coming back after three weeks off, but we have to start back somewhere.”
St. Maries got 14 assists from Lily Daniel and seven kills from Taci Watkins as it fell to 2-4, 1-1 CIL.
Up Next: St. Maries hosts Timberlake (6-5) Thursday at 7 p.m. The Tigers, after starting their season 0-4, have won six of their last seven matches. The Lumberjacks will close their week at Grangeville (5-10, 0-3 CIL) Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. start, and return to action Monday with a home contest against Orofino, set for 6:30 p.m.
