A lead was held for one minute and 55 seconds by the Kootenai girls basketball team Feb. 10 in a district tournament play-in game with Mullan.

Another 18 seconds, and the Warriors would have broken into the win column for the first time this season with impeccable timing.

But Mullan had designs at advancing to a first round contest with Lakeside, and a jumper from Tiger Emily Dykes with 17.8 left sealed Kootenai’s winless streak at 13 games.

“We played really well, and were in a position to win the game, but just came up short,” Coach Doug Napierala said. “The girls battled to the end, and I’m very proud of them.”

Jacey Grange hit a shot with just over two minutes to play, giving the Warriors a 19-20 lead on what would be the second-to-last bucket of the contest.

Mullan went on to face top seed Lakeside Feb. 11 in the first round of the 1AD2 District One tournament.
