The Lakeside girls basketball team’s offense was struggling Jan. 30 against North Idaho Christian.

The Knights were down 24-40 at halftime.

But that was before Ashlee Holt started getting looks from three-point range.

After that, Lakeside took over.

Ashlee hit four three pointers in the second half and finished 6-11 from beyond the arc as her team rallied with a 24-9 third quarter and finished on top 61-55.

“We were getting outworked, out-hustled, out-rebounded, and NIC was shooting the ball very well in the first half,” Coach Chris Dohrman said. “Our ladies made some big adjustments to our effort and defense in the second half. I was proud of the changes we made, but we need to play a full game so we don’t put ourselves in a bad position and have to come from behind.”

Ashlee finished with a team-high 18 points and her sister Jolissa had 17 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and six assists.

The girls traveled to Wallace Feb. 2 where they would look to cap a perfect record in SIC play with a second win over the Miners.

A win would ensure home court advantage for Lakeside in the Scenic Idaho League’s district tournament, which is set to begin next week.

The first meeting between the two teams, Jan. 26 in Plummer, saw Lakeside to another halftime deficit as Wallace jumped out to a 30-28 lead through two frames.

Ashlee again came up big for the Knights with 18 points as her team outscored Wallace 25-17 in the second half and took a decisive 53-47 win to improve to 3-0 in SIC play.

Jolissa added 16 points and Arianna Havier-Gorr seven.

Martina Rivera had a big night Jan. 29 at Genesis Prep, scoring 13 points for Lakeside in a 65-9 victory.

“Martina had a really good game,” Coach Dohrman said. “She was almost perfect from the field, making six of her seven shots.”
