In its first season as members of the 1AD1 classification, Lakeside has not turned away from further challenging itself.

A trip to face 2A St. Maries opened the Knights’ schedule, followed by a contest with 3A Bonners Ferry.

Two more 3A Intermountain League opponents are on the schedule next month following Thanksgiving Break, including the reigning 3A state champion, Timberlake.

Kellogg will conclude Lakeside’s stretch of higher-classed opponents before the Knights take on Clark Fork Dec. 15 in their first meeting with a 1A school.

The girls played to a three-point lead over St. Maries Nov. 17 before Ashlee Holt went off for 13 points in the fourth quarter, including three shots from long range.

“It was a pretty close game when Ashlee scored all of her 13 points,” Coach Chris Dohrman, now in his seventh season as head girls coach, said. “It was nice to get a win on our first night out. We still have a lot to work on and improve but we have a good starting point.”

Bonners Ferry made nearly half of its three-point attempts Nov. 21 at Ron Miller Court, putting Lakeside down 24 by halftime.

“They shot the ball really well, especially in the first half,” Coach Dohrman said. “We just couldn’t make up for that.”

Arianna Havier-Gorr was a bright spot for the Knights, recording a team-high 17 points in the 45-68 defeat that put the Knights at 1-1.

“We just need to work on limiting turnovers and second opportunities,” Coach Dohrman said. “I did like some of the things we did offensively. I’m excited to play Bonners Ferry again and see how we improve. Hopefully we can be more competitive.”
