Kootenai’s boys basketball team did what it could to make up for its poor start at districts Feb. 20.
The result left the Warriors with their closest game against Lakeside this season.
But Kootenai came up just short in the 55-63 season-ending loss.
“They stomped us in the first quarter,” Coach Mike Maitland said of his team’s 4-19 deficit going into the second frame. “The boys didn’t back down. To play that last game the way they did, after losing to them twice before, I was proud of them.”
Kootenai had previously lost to NSL-rival Lakeside by 20 and 27 points, respectively.
Triston Usdrowski led the Warriors with 29 points, followed by Gage Maitland with 12 and Marcus Ausman with eight.
Mitchell Vawter added four points as Kootenai outscored Lakeside 33-20 in the second and third quarters combined. Garrett Renner chipped in two points.
Kootenai closes its season on an 11-8, 4-6 NSL record.
