After playing a near-even first half with league foe Grangeville, St. Maries’ boys basketball team clamped down Jan. 18.

The Bulldogs scored two points in the ensuing third quarter and nine total second half points as the Lumberjacks recorded their first league victory, 48-29.

The team sits idle through the school week before hosting Orofino Saturday for a second CIL matchup.

Similar to Grangeville, Orofino and St. Maries share one common opponent in Prairie.

The Maniacs fell to the Pirates last week by 16 and dropped to 4-7 on the season.

Eli Gibson led the Lumberjacks Jan. 18 in their win over Grangeville as he scored 15 points to help his team to its eighth win.

Brett Stancil chipped in 13 points in the effort.

St. Maries hosted Bonners Ferry Jan. 20 for a makeup game that was postponed last month. After going down 10-12 through one frame, the Jacks outscored the Badgers 21-13 in the second quarter en route to a 55-42 win.

Eli again led St. Maries with 15 points to go with three assists, and Coleman Ross fell just shy of a triple-double with his 12 points, nine rebounds and eight steals.
