Motorists may see the reopening of State 3 north of Goosehaven Road by the end of summer as contractors remain on schedule.
Crews continued to make progress on the State 3 widening project throughout July with large parts of the project reaching completion.
The Idaho Transportation Department reported excavation for widening on the northbound lane of project has been completed.
“Some excavation is still left near approaches, but for the most part that type of work is complete on the project,” ITD Public Information Officer Megan Jahns said.
Jahns reported crews plan to hit more milestones on the project throughout August and September. She said the crews will use the upcoming weeks to build the base of the widened road.
After, the crews plan to pave the section sometime in late August or early September.
“Crews are working days and nights as necessary to meet the project schedule,” Jahns said. “The highway is expected to reopen after paving.”
Jahns said the crews have taken a short break away from night work but plan to return to a day and night schedule during the last phases of the project.
“Allowing the contractor to work at night has increased efficiency at the site and has helped maintain progress despite a wet spring,” Jahns said. “Depending on the type of the work being done, night work will begin again to complete the project as soon as possible.”
Work began on the project in early April of this year with the intention to widen the three mile stretch of State 3 between both intersections of Goosehaven Road.
The overall work includes the widening of the highway by 11 feet to the east which will make room for 11 foot travel lanes and shoulders that are three feet wide.
