The search for a new St. Maries School District superintendent has boiled down to three finalists and the public is invited to a forum to meet them.
The district has been in the search for a new superintendent since Alica Holthaus announced her retirement in the fall of last year. Her retirement is effective at the end of the school year in June 2023.
District leadership plan to use this Thursday’s forum to get the public familiar with the three finalists. Board of Trustees Chairman Jody Hendrickx said he hopes to hear plenty of feedback from the district’s patrons.
“In the end it’s the board’s decision but we wanted to be respectful of our patrons and community members,” Hendrickx said. “They were the ones who elected us and we want to make sure everyone is on the same page.”
Hendrickx said the candidates will get to spend an entire day familiarizing themselves with the district as well.
The three will each get to interview with the board individually before meeting all the principals from the schools within the district.
The candidates will then get a chance to tour the district before meeting back at the high school gym for the forum.
The three candidates are Joni Stevenson, Kim Spacek and Teresa Rensch.
Stevenson previously served in the Cascade School District as a pre-k through 12 principal and most recently as the superintendent for the district. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and holds an Idaho Superintendent Credential.
Spacek has served as the Superintendent in the Inchelium School District in Washington since 2013. He previously served as the Superintendent for the Pomeroy School District. Spacek has two Master’s of Education degrees and completed the superintendent Field Certification Program.
Dr. Rensch has served as the principal of the Konocti Unified School District based in Lake County, California for over a year. She previously served as the Director of the Curriculum of Instruction for six and a half years. Dr. Rensch also has an extensive background in serving various districts such as the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District and the Chicago Public School District. She has a Master’s degree in Education Leadership and a Doctorate degree in Education Leadership and Management.
Those who attend the forum to meet these candidates will get a chance to learn more about their backgrounds. Hendrickx said each candidate will be stationed in different areas of the high school gym so they can meet with the public individually.
After the forum, patrons are encouraged to complete a comment card. The Board of Trustees will review the cards and consider input in the superintendent search.
The forum will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 16 at the St. Maries High School gym.
