A local woman remembered for her contributions to the St. Maries community passed away last month.
Karolyn Allen passed away February 14, 2023. She was the wife of former St. Maries Mayor, Robert Allen.
Karolyn was born March 30, 1941 in Decator, Illinois. She grew up in that area for most of her life before moving to California.
Karolyn and Robert met in California while Robert was in the U.S. Navy. They raised two daughters together, Vicki Allen and Connie Reed.
Robert grew up in St. Maries and upon retirement, the couple moved to the area in the 90s.
Karolyn and Robert were members of the St. Maries community for around 25 years and deeply integrated themselves during that time.
“She (Karolyn) did a lot of work for Hospice and was very involved with the Senior Center,” Vicki said.
Vicki added one of her mother’s favorite hobbies was crafting and many of her crafts had been featured in raffles for charity benefits.
“Mom did a lot of stuff behind the scenes,” Vicki said. “She was very charitable.”
“She was active in the city and kind of like the woman behind the man,” she added. “She was not much of a limelight person but if anyone needed a care basket, she was right there.”
Vicki and her sister Connie want to thank the community for their support.
“My sister and I want to thank everybody for the well wishes, prayers, friendships and the memories,” Vicki said.
A memorial service will be planned by the family at a later date.
