As the summer season gets underway in St. Maries plans for Paul Bunyan Days celebration are starting to come together.

This year’s most significant change will be the carnival.

“Our main carnival bowed out because they lost a big contract in the tri-cities and that was the only thing that brought them up our way,” Dale Hill, committee director, said.

The group has contracted with Paradise Amusements out of Coeur d’Alene to provide the carnival this year.

Other returning events include the demolition derby, water events, tug of war, amateur logger’s competition, fireworks and the parade.

The group is also looking into making a movie night down at the park a regular event if they can secure the necessary equipment.

“We offered it in 2019 and it was a packed house,” Mr. Hill said.

The committee meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Eagles Lodge. Anyone wanting to be involved in any of this year’s events is encouraged to attend.

“We’ve got some new blood, but we could use some more help,” Mr. Hill said. “It’s going to be exciting.”
