Local health care provider Heritage Health is finalizing its purchase of the former location of the Milling Center, located on 13th Street.
Leaders with Heritage Health are hoping to hear from the community and use the opportunity with the new location to find out what the community needs.
The organization moved out of its old location on College Avenue last month to begin working out of the new site.
After around five years of serving the people in the community, Heritage Health has taken this next step to better solidify its place in the community and have a larger space to provide mental health services, therapy and substance abuse recovery.
“It’s been so cool for Heritage Health to have been a part of the community for so long,” Heritage Health CEO Mike Baker said. “We’ve had a lot of great success and we want to be a bigger part of the community.”
Baker said the group is leasing the building from the previous owners as they finalize the purchase as well as discuss parking rules along 13th Street with the city of St. Maries.
He said the building still has the play center in it that was once utilized by the Milling Center and said the company wants input from the community on what kinds of things they should keep in the building. It had also had come equipped with a space to use a commercial kitchen.
“We want to look at the space and re-imagine what it could look like,” Baker said. “The possibility with this space is wide open.”
“We want to understand the needs this community has and not double up on services that are already being provided,” he added.
Baker said so far the therapists that work at the new building are loving it as they have more space to work with. The new space could also give Heritage Health an opportunity to bring in more services.
The purchase of the property is the first property purchase Heritage Health as an organization has made and said it’s a way to show their dedication to staying in this area.
“We are investing money into the community and we want to feel a part of it for a long time,” Baker said.
Heritage Health in St. Maries is now open in its new location at its normal hours, 7:30 a.m.. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Appointments can be made by calling 208-245-4363.
