The St. Joe Ranger District is in search of applicants for multiple positions. Most of the positions pertain to trail maintenance and clearing.
One of the jobs includes being a motorcycle operator, where workers will be tasked to ride local trails around the St. Joe Valley and clear any fallen trees or debris. The ranger district seeks one person to fill the opening.
“You do need to be an advanced rider,” Trails Coordinator Tracey Gravelle said. “The terrain is rugged and most of the riding trails are moderate to advanced.”
She said the Ranger District also seeks a handful of hires to do non-motorized maintenance, and a majority of the work will include hiking and clearing trails.
She said both motorized and non-motorized workers will need to operate chain saws and those who apply do not need to have prior experience operating a chain saw as they are willing to train.
“Really anyone can apply for this job who doesn’t mind getting dirty and likes to work hard,” Gravelle said.
The application period for these positions runs from January 12 – 19. Most of the positions will be based out of Avery or St. Maries. Housing may be available at the Avery duty station.
Those who are interested in applying for one of the positions can visit usajobs.gov. Gravelle said to give her or Developed Recreation Manager, Mike Frost, a call if there are any questions on applications or job descriptions.
Gravelle can be reached at 509-724-7994 and Frost can be reached at 208-582-4859.
