Sales tax hike eyed to eliminate school levy
A senator from Caldwell wants to eliminate supplemental levies for schools by raising the sales tax. Sen. Jim Rice (R) said last week he would draft a bill to raise the sales tax from 6 to 7 percent. the one-percent increase would generate $280 million; this year, school districts collected $214 million through supplemental levies.Â

WNE hires new CPA
Donna Hays was recently hired as a certified public accountant at Warren Erickson. Ms. Hayes and her husband Mike moved to St. Maries in 2015 from Athol, Idaho, and she joined WNE in August to help with tax consulting and accounting services.

PotlatchDeltic Meal Baskets
UpRiver Food Bank co-director Christine Ashmead (left) stands with PotlatchDeltic HR Tech Jenny Abell who led an employee effort at PotlatchDeltic to raise funds for both the St. Maries and UpRiver Food banks. PotlatchDeltic employees were able to raise more than $4,257 to go toward the creation of meal boxes for the two organizations. The contributions also counted toward the St. Maries High School Brawl for the Ball food drive.Â

Tri-Comm take-apart party
Tri-Community Library held a Take-Apart Party on January 2, 2020. The parents and children who attended took apart a computer tower, laptop, various phones, a CD player, watches, and remotes. Librarian John Smith helped us learn where various components were located inside of many every day items that we use. Pictured is Josalyn Dockery, age nine.
