Harold was born in St Joe City to George and Sarah Kruger and was the youngest of 7 children. He attended school in St Maries. He and his parents moved to Oregon where at age 12, he worked in his father’s chain shop before the family moved on to Alaska. Harold worked as a commercial fisherman and then as a logger around Ketchikan. He returned to Idaho to work for his brothers at Kruger Brothers Logging. Later, he and his nephew, Bob Kruger of Clarkia, joined together to purchase a cat jammer that they worked together as Kruger & Kruger for many years. Harold married Jacqueline DeWald in 1961 they had two children, Julie Ann and Harold Gene, Jr. Jacqueline preceded him in death in 1977. He later married Debbie Ellsworth O’Dell and they continued to live in Fernwood for 17 years before moving to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1995. Harold retired from logging in 2005 and continued his life long passion for horses with Debbie until his death. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Kruger & 2 granddaughters Jenawae and Anissa and 4 great grandchildren all living in in Kona, Hawaii. His son Harold Gene Kruger Jr, wife Shelley, his son Derek and two great grand children in St Maries, ID & granddaughter Kiley Kruger from Moscow, ID; and step daughter, Shannon O’Dell from Otis Orchards, Wa. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be determined at a later time.
